Evaluation

Overall, I am very happy with my finished prototype and think it meets the brief and the requirements of my specification very well.

Context:
Aesthetics- I feel that my prototype is suitable for the Tron Legacy set and that it represents the style well. The only change I would make if cost & time were not an issue would be to use some kind of lighting rather than the blue acrylic grill on the front. Despite this I still think it is finished to a high quality.
Target Market- Because of the reasons mentioned above, I think people who enjoy the Tron brand, and it's style, would like my amplifier.

Requirements:
Function- The amplifier can play decent sound quality to an audible level but if it is turned up too loud it does become distorted but it seems that is an issue with the speakers rather than my design and, in fact, having two does seem to have increased the quality/volume level a bit. It is extremely easy to use and includes an on/off push switch to preserve power and it lights up so it is not left on accidentally.
Size- The product is perhaps a little larger than some portable amplifier but this was necessary for the shape I chose and to have two speakers. However, it is still completely portable and useable with portable mp3 players.
Weight- It is very light weight, thanks to it being hollow and made from light weight jelutong, making it very easy to carry.
Durability- Although I haven't tested it (i.e. thrown it around) too much, it has been back and forth in my bad and it seems to be a solid, pretty durable product.

Manufacture:
Process- The CNC machine had no problem cutting out my shape, therefore I was succesful in designing a prototype fit for the manufacturing technique.
Cost- If the product was to be sold in stores, I could have perhaps experimented more with lighting techniques to fit the style more and give it a flashier look. However, with the realistic "promotional item" budget I set, the amplifier turned out very well.
Materials- The jelutong worked perfectly on the CNC machine and the hollowed out wood does help the sound quality. I used acrylic to add detail to the front and think this worked well to give it nice clean, strong lines. The battery cover on the back was produced by the 3D printer as it was just a small part but had some detail on it.
